Okay so I've read many comment sections, looked at all the videos and listen to people who've gone hands on with the game(IGN game scoop) in it's current state...What I take away from all this is, Nintendo finally has noticeable competition worthy of it's attention.
What this game is from all accounts, is on the surface a Kills/K.O. based fighter with environmental hazards and more based on heavy Meter Management with a bit of Spacing so far and not damage % & "Spikes". This game is all about diversity using the nearly 20 year history Playstation to create something different from Smash in terms of character play styles. There are already notable examples of such are from reports Radec is very limited in close range, The Princess uses her subjects in a very Caption Commando/Olimar like way, Sly doesn't have a block only a cloaking ability and Kratos has some combos from his game(as in you can input a combo as you remember it and you'll possibly get him to do it). Also it's game steeped in creating a true cross over of the Sony universe(Levels of Patapon in the GOW's Hades fighting the god, A LBP level that turns into a BUZZ quiz show). And this is just from their announcement stuff, they probably got a nice package of reveals for E3 to EVO(Where they may have an hands-on during the event SINCE ED MA is on deck with deving PS All Stars) to Lipzeg and to TGS all leading up till launch which is happening in the fall from reports.
Unlike Ultimate All Stars or any other Cross over in the vain of a Smash like game(which smash wasn't the first just the most popular), this is ALL Sony(not just a licenced character or two in) going after Nintendo's pie with character a lot of people know world wide just like the Nintendo stable. Nintendo now has to recognize there's a Knight on the board that was before(sorry to say to fans of these other franchises) all Rooks and Pawns. The King has to move or Risk getting put in check mate and what I mean by the King having to move is that Nintendo has to get moving and prove that it's no falling behind in it's approach. Because, many people who walk away from All Stars after A HANDS ON say it's on par with the Smash series' mechanics and at this moment is at the level of quality of a Smash title just lacking the characters and maps(from A NON FGC standpoint, just a fun, good quality, average gamer standpoint). WHICH IS A GREAT THING, as competitiveness breeds innovation and unlike previous Nintendo games who had rivals like this that died off, they died off due to Lack of Quality and no previous fan base, Sony's franchises that they're putting in this game have that PS3 owning fanbase already so this won't simply fade away into obscurity.
